Naked Lunch Cafe, 431 Smithdown Road, Liverpool, L15 3JL
Yesterday I met one of my friends for lunch at the new Naked Lunch Cafe on Smithdown Road in Liverpool. Naked Lunch Cafe is an independent co-operative cafe and opened in same place as the former Cafe Kerouac, when 45 people came together to form a co-operative when the previous owner, Ged Brennan, unfortunately became ill.
Naked Lunch provides lots of different options on their menus, including catering for vegetarians, vegans and coeliacs by producing gluten-free food. The cafe is open 8am-6pm most days and caters for breakfast, lunch and snacks, as well as hot drinks and cakes. I think their menu varies fairly often, as everything is written up on chalk boards - I am pretty sure that their cake selection is very variable, which is great.
I had a melted cheese sandwich with Fentiman's rose lemonade, and then a huge slice of Victoria sponge cake, and it all tasted so good as well as being really filling. Kath had the roasted vegetable sandwich which was amazing too - especially the sweet potatoes on the side.
Smithdown needed another little independent cafe as somewhere to meet friends for food or a drink, and Naked Lunch Cafe is just the ticket. It has modern Scandi-inspired interiors that makes it really cosy, and the staff are so lovely. Plus the food is great - I love it when a place has a variable menu. I really want to try out one of their vegetarian breakfasts. It is definitely somewhere I will be visiting again in the future!
Don't compare your beginnings to someone else's middle.
